Mindmapping for teaching: classroom and online applications
Mindmapping is an approach to organising information that can help students to structure their thoughts more clearly. The graphical format allows relationships between ideas to be visually expressed, as well as stimulating memory and creative thinking. In interactive teaching, mindmapping can help to record, structure and integrate input from all participants. Mindmapping software now allows for mindmaps to be used as a presentation tool within Powerpoint, as well as to prepare handouts which can be shared online.
Chua Ai Lin is an Assistant Professor in the History Department. She has been an active mindmapper for fifteen years and successfully used mindmapping in teaching large, cross-faculty modules for the last five semesters. She uses both Windows and Mac operating systems and enjoys testing new software applications
